Google has started pushing out the Android Auto 15.8 beta update to eligible testers. The rollout is currently limited, but a wider release is expected soon. Although anyone can sideload the APK, it may be worth waiting for the stable version since this build doesn’t introduce any obvious user-facing changes.
Over the past few weeks, Android Auto has received several rapid updates focused mainly on bug fixes, performance tweaks, and laying groundwork for upcoming features. One of the biggest recent additions is Gemini, which is gradually replacing Google Assistant. The new 15.8 update likely improves Gemini’s stability and expands its availability to more users.
A refreshed widget system is also part of these changes. Users now get deeper customization options through Android Auto settings, accessible under EarthCompanion or via Activity shortcuts on some devices. With these improvements, you can adjust widget alignment and height, including placing the Gemini widget anywhere on the screen and resizing it to either 50% or full sidebar height.

Gemini is also receiving its first dedicated shortcut, though it may initially appear only on Pixel phones. Another welcome improvement is easier wireless reconnecting—Android Auto can now display a notification whenever your phone connects wirelessly. The new Wi-Fi status message helps users diagnose connection issues more quickly.
