Google has started releasing the Android Auto 15.7 beta update to a limited number of users. One of the biggest additions in this release is early support for Gemini, Google’s new AI assistant. Only compatible devices will get the feature for now, and since it’s still in testing, the rollout will be slow.

Recently, Google also raised the minimum Android version required for Android Auto—from Android 8 to Android 9. Many believe this change is connected to the introduction of Gemini, though it’s still unclear which phones will fully support the assistant. Even so, the update is promising, as drivers will soon be able to complete tasks hands-free with the help of the new AI.
To download the Android Auto 15.7 beta update, head over to the Play Store—provided you are enrolled in the beta program. If not, you can install it manually by downloading the APK file. After downloading, open your file manager, tap the APK, and follow the instructions to install. First-time installers may see a warning about unknown apps, which can be bypassed by enabling installation from trusted sources.
Although the update includes performance improvements and bug fixes, the spotlight remains on Gemini integration. Google previewed the feature in a short video, highlighting how it can help drivers access smarter search results and better manage tasks while keeping their focus on the road.
Issues reported after Gemini Integration with Android Auto 15.7 beta update
However, because the integration is still in its early stages, a few issues have surfaced. Gemini is currently unable to recognize nicknames and struggles with some voice requests. In some cases, it even attempts to make a call instead of sending a text message. These limitations are expected during testing, which is why access is restricted for now. Google is expected to address these problems before expanding the feature to more users.
Gemini will eventually roll out globally, but the distribution will happen in phases, meaning some regions may wait longer before receiving the feature.

Google has restricted the update to the Play Store, so only those in the Beta program can get it for now. However, the APK file is already available, and you can download and install it manually. Just follow the link, save the file, and install it from your downloads folder. If anything goes wrong, you can uninstall the update and revert to an older version. Otherwise, you may prefer to wait for the stable release, which should begin rolling out soon.
